This guide is for those with 2 Factor Authentication turned on.

What is 2 Factor Authentication?

Two-step verification helps protect you by making it more difficult for someone else to sign in to your Microsoft account. It uses two different forms of identity: your password, and a contact method (also known as security info). Even if someone else finds your password, they'll be stopped if they don't have access to your security info. This is also why it's important to use different passwords for all your accounts.

So usually when you sign in to your Microsoft account anywhere, you will be prompted to enter a security code from the Microsoft Authenticator app, which you usually have on your company mobile. We would have set this up for you.

There will be times where some apps won't accept your security code. This is where you would use an App password. For example a user who has 2 Factor Authentication turned on will not be able to use their standard password when setting up the Dyanmics Field service App. They will need to enter an App password which they have generated.

How to create an App password:

  1. Login to your web mail via jcamail.co.uk.
  2. Enter in your security code from the authenticator app.

  3. Once logged in, click your profile picture in the right hand corner and then click on "My Account".

  4. Then on the left hand pane, click on "Security & privacy", then "Additional security information" and then "Create and manage app passwords".

  5. Now you can create an App password. Click on "Create".

  6. Type in a name for the App password, e.g. Dynamics, Outlook. Then click "Next".

  7. It will then generate a long App password. Ensure you note this down as once you click close you won't be able to see it again.

  8. Then enter this password in any of the apps which require an App password. Remember the same app passwords can be used in multiple applications.
